For budget travelers, your very best option for lodging at Lollapalooza is the HI Chicago Hostel. My first two visits to Chicago were both for the Lollapalooza music festival, so it seems appropriate to provide a guide to Lollapalooza for those who will be attending the four-day event in August. Lolla won't be happening this summer, just like all other large outdoor gatherings in Chicago. Unlike Bonnaroo, where you’re stuck camping on-site all day and all night, the music at Lolla ends at 10 pm, which means you have the rest of the evening to experience the city. I’ve never been to a music festival like this, mostly because crowds tend to overwhelm me (maybe it’s because I’m so damn short so it feels like I’m being suffocated?) The music includes every possible genre: rock, pop, dance, hip hop, folk, R&B, and a little bit of country. Lollapalooza is still not quite up to date on gender equality. I was thinking as I read through that I’ve never been to this festival or any of this type mostly because of the crowds. Outdoor music and showers should get higher ratings.. For my money, I’d rather see two partial sets from good bands than get stuck missing one band entirely. I'm going to offer up two statements to gauge your interest in Lollapalooza. As I wrote in my final thoughts in 2013, Lollapalooza has largely become a festival for high school and college students. Our photographer crawled the crowd in search of statement-making outfits and was rewarded with feathered crop tops, neon hues and plenty of Western-inspired pieces. You can always get a fancy hotel and split it several ways. Make sure to stay hydrated, especially if you’re drinking alcohol.
